Swedish Meatballs Anyone?

Swedish Meatballs Anyone?

Easy, easy, easy Swedish Meatballs. The influence for the Swedish Meatballs that I make comes from a Pinterest post. I loved the taste of the Pinterest recipe; however, it was costly. I do not like to spend $50-$60 Dollars on one home cooked meal. So I took what I loved about the original recipe and I manhandled it to fit my budget, and my style. So what we have is a budget friendly, easy and IKEA inspired Swedish sauce.

Prep Time: 30 minutes.
Cook Time: Meatballs -20 minutes.
Cook Time: Sauce -10 minutes.
Serves: 6
Serve Over: Egg Noodles, Rice, Potatoes, or by themselves.

What You Need

  • ½ Tablespoon of Garlic Powder (if you like garlic add more)
  • 1/8 Teaspoon Pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 5 Tablespoons of Butter
  • 6 Tablespoons of All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 Cups of Unsalted Beef Broth
  • 2 Tablespoon of Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 ½ Teaspoon of Dijon Mustard
  • ½ cup of finely chopped Onion (Spanish or Sweet)
  • 1 bag of frozen meatballs. (I normally buy the smaller homestyle Meijer brand, or any store brand will do)

Instructions

Cook frozen meatballs as instructed on the product bag. (I always oven bake my meatballs) Once cooked, drain out the extra grease and set aside.

Use medium sauce pan add oil or pam. cook onions on medium heat until soft. Remove onions from sauce pan and set aside.

For the sauce you will need to use the medium size sauce pan. In the sauce pan melt down the five tablespoons of butter, once butter has melted add 6 tablespoons of all-purpose flour to butter. Stir flower into butter and continue to stir while it cooks, about five minutes or until flower turned a light shade of brown.

This step is very important SLOWLY (a little at a time) add two cups of unsalted beef broth to the sauce pan. Your arm will become tired but it is important that you use a whisk and whisk the browned flour and broth together until all two cups have been added and all the flour has been dissolved.

Reduce heat add salt, pepper, garlic power, Worcestershire sauce, cooked onions, and Dijon mustard to sauce. Keep whisking until sauce becomes thicker.

Once sauce is thicken to your liking add meatballs to sauce give a good stir. Once combined serve meatballs over your choice of Egg noodles, Rice, Potatoes, or by themselves.

Note: Sever dish hot.
